With the ever-evolving nature of COVID-19, we at SERVPRO of Highland Village hope to provide you with the tools necessary to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases. The Dangers of Asbestos

Have you heard of asbestos? Does that word scare you? Do you know where asbestos originates from?
Asbestos is found all over the world, it is a naturally occurring mineral. Asbestos has crystals that form long, thin fibers.
Asbestos became popular as a component in insulation in the late 1800s. Insulation containing asbestos was primarily wrapped around boilers and pipes, as well as other high temperature applications.
Asbestos has been found to create negative long-term health effects in humans. One disease that can develop is asbestosis. Asbestosis typically develops over 15 to 30 years and is characterized by fibrotic scarring of the lung which can reduce lung function and capacity. This can create shortness of breath.
Multiple cancers can be developed after being exposed to asbestos including lung cancer and mesothelioma. When a person has been exposed to asbestos fibers, their risk of developing lung cancer increases by 5 times. For reference, cigarette smokers increase their chances of developing lung cancer by 10 times.
Mesothelioma is the rarest form of cancer that can develop after exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma is a cancer of the chest cavity lining and possibly the abdominal cavity lining. Mesothelioma spreads very rapidly and is always fatal.

Lantana, TX Lightning Strikes

During storms, lightning can strike anywhere, at any time. Fires can be caused by this lightning when it strikes houses. The Argyle Fire District has responded to numerous calls due to lightning strikes, high water rescues, and medical emergencies during a short period of time. Multiple Lantana homes have been considered a total loss as a result of fire and water damage.
Getting families back into their homes as soon as possible after being displaced due to a house fire is our top priority. We attempt to salvage as many items as possible when cleaning after fire damage. In order to make this possible, we clean furniture with our upholstery cleaning machine, clothes with the Esporta Wash System, and other salvageable household items with dry cleaning sponges. In May this year, we celebrated our second anniversary in business! In the whirlwind that has been the past year, we have learned how to best help our community during a global pandemic through our services. As we continue to strive to be a light in our community, we look forward to what the next years will bring. We reflect on our first years and are thankful for how much we have been able to learn and grow, while looking ahead at our future goals. One of our owners, Harrison Stone, has said, "Getting to help people these first years has been a really great experience and the things we have learned have changed our business a lot. The Stone family has been with SERVPRO for over 40 years now. My great grandmother, grandparents, great aunt and uncle, both uncles, and my father have all owned their own separate franchises in the past. This business has fed our family for this long and along the way helped countless families and individuals get their lives back in order from all kinds of disasters.
My brothers and I have decided to take the family legacy to the next generation and carry on the pride and responsibility of restoring the homes and property of as many people as we possibly can.
